I have this Mac fully updated as far as the Mac OS X is concerned. I am also running Intego Suite X9 Barrier software to stop any Malware or online intrusions. All my software is fully registered and I have purchased/own all of it, nothing is shareware or pirated software.

In 1996 to 2004 I was employed as a futurist and the person responsible for finding talented and creative coders and application developers (Project Manager). For a company here in Melbourne developing WAP, SMS and MMS in co-operation with the Nokia Corporation and the Telstra Corporation. I was also the SysAdmin responsible for the server farm and internal network of Windows computers. My PPC Mac at that stage was my web design computer for the Adobe Suite of software and Microsofts Office suite of software. I have an idea of what I am doing is the point of all this information, outdated now I agree, but I have a clue is my point. 🙂 Now in 2018 I am retired, I'm 65 years old and I need some assistance and guidance please.

The Question:


I have been using CleanMyMac 2 (purchased in 2010) regularly and fully updated to run routine tasks on my iMac. I have never had any real problems with it other than deleting cookies for Facebook, causing me to re-enter my passwords etc, no big deal.


Today I upgraded and purchased CleanMyMac X 2018. The Full registered version. So that it is fully compatible with the latest Mac OS High Sierra - Version 10.12.6


However when seeking information on MacPaw and CleanMyMac software I have come across 'rumours' that MacPaw is a front for Russian hackers. Does anyone know if this is true or is it just spurious and malicious gossip to discredit MacPaw and CleanMyMac?


As I stated earlier in this post, CleanMyMac 2 was bundled with my new iMac when I bought it in 2010 and was one of the CD's/DVD's in the iMac Box that arrived in 2010 after I had purchased my iMac (so I trusted the software as it came bundled with the Apple software).


I personally have not had any problems with it, Intego X9 Barrier software (full registered version and kept updated) has run alongside it quite happily and has not reported suspicious behaviour.


Are these rumours true and should I remove CleanMyMac X and ask for a refund? OR Am I just being over cautious

and reacting to spurious and malicious gossip on the internet? Please help. 🙂 Dave
