Well, that was embarrassing.
The San Francisco 49ers came out and laid an egg in the biggest game of the year, losing 37-27 to the Seattle Seahawks. The Niners looked ugly from the opening kickoff. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw an ill-advised interception on a critical third-and-5 that cost the 49ers a chance to put some points on the board.
Russell Wilson and the Seahawks’ offense put this one away after seldom-used receiver Dante Pettis — who head coach Kyle Shanahan has kept in the dog house — was surprisingly called upon to return a kickoff and fumbled, giving Seattle possession on the San Francisco 21-yard line.

The Seahawks scored six players later to go up 27-7, ending any hopes of a Niners comeback. To make matters worse, Garoppolo and tight end George Kittle both left the game with separate injuries and did not return.
Here are some Twitter reactions to the 49ers ugly loss:
The 49ers actually got off to a great start:

— San Francisco 49ers (@49ers) November 1, 2020What an opening series by #49ers defense: 3-and-out, including sack by K'Waun Williams and limited YAC to Metcalf on 2 receptions
— Cam Inman (@CamInman) November 1, 2020On a big third down in Seahawks territory, head coach Kyle Shanahan called a terrible play:
Wildcat. Not so wild. Jerick McKinnon gets bottled up quickly.
— Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoNBCS) November 1, 2020I think we can all agree that Jerick McKinnon is the worst QB in 49ers history.
— Matt Barrows (@mattbarrows) November 1, 2020San Francisco got a break when JaMycal Hasty’s fumble was overturned, but things quickly changed:

— East Bay Chris (@EastBayChris) November 1, 2020DK Metcalf dominated the 49ers’ secondary:
Touchdown Seahawks. Russell Wilson hits DK Metcalf over the middle and he outruns the entire #49ers secondary to the endzone. Looked like some poor angles and effort their from the defense, some a byproduct of Metcalf's speed. #SFvsSEA
